New Zoolander 2 Clip Shows Kristen Wiig's Bizarre Character

Zoolander 2 is one of the most highly anticipated comedies of this year. A sequel 15 years in the making, fans of the original are more than excited to see favorite characters like Derek and Hansel return to the big screen. Zoolander 2 is also promising a gaggle of original, but similarly ridiculous, characters to join the classics. One of these new characters is Alexanya Atoz, played by Kristen Wiig. The team behind Zoolander 2 just released a new video showcasing this super bizarre character. Check it out below:
Kristen Wiig is essentially unrecognizable in this role, and it’s pretty out of this world. This video/teaser is set up as an advertisement for Alexanya’s line of face cream, and had some hilarious results.
I’m already in love with the role of Alexanya. She embodies some of my favorite things: silly voices and people who have too much plastic surgery. Kristen Wiig’s Alexanya is shown to be essentially unable to move her face and make expressions. This is best scene in the moment where she explains that looking old makes you said, but looking young makes you happy. Alexanya attempts to further illustrate her point by making happy and sad faces, with less than ideal results. Instead, the expressions basically look exactly the same.
Kristen Wiig and the writers of this video also did a great job at including as many sexual innuendos as virtually possible. Using Alexanya’s accent, as well as her inability to speak properly due to surgery, she pronounces a multitude of words incorrectly and accidentally makes them sexual. This can be seen with her very first line where she pronounces beauty laboratory as "Booty Labia...tory". This tongue in cheek humor is right up my alley, and makes me excited for what the Justin Theroux and the rest of the writers of Zoolander 2 have up their sleeve.
Kristen Wiig has impressive skill with approaching comedy in both TV and film. After her tenure at SNL, where she was essentially in every skit in each episode, she made a quick transition to becoming a bonafide movie star. After her star making moment in Bridesmaids, she went on to appear in a hand full of comedies. Now, we’re seeing her dramatic side with her roles in The Martian and Skeleton Twins. The cartoonish level of silly comedy that Zoolander is known for seems like the perfect place for Wiig to return to her roots and make our stomachs hurt with laughter.
Check out the trailer for Zoolander 2 below. The movie will be strutting into theaters on February 12th, 2016.
