Who The Rock Wants To Play Shazam In The DCEU

Armie Hammer The Lone Ranger

The Rock has been set to play the role of villain in the Shazam movie for quite some time, however, we're still waiting to see who plays the hero. Recently, Dwayne Johnson was asked who he'd like to go up against in the forthcoming Shazam movie, and the People's Champ had one, really solid, idea. He didn't technically give the name away, but he dropped the actor's biggest role to date, The Lone Ranger. The Rock vs. Armie Hammer, I could totally get behind that. Jonhson explained why he thinks Hammer could be a great choice...

For example, I'm going to throw one name out here, and I want to see how the fans will are gonna react to this. A guy who I'd met, and after I met him I went 'Wow! That guy is such a cool guy! He is a lot bigger than I thought he would be' And when I walked away, I remember telling our producer, who I have worked with for a long time Hiram Garcia, we both looked at each other and were like 'Possibly Shazam?!' and we went 'Yes!' I'm not even going to say his name, I'm just going to say Lone Ranger.

The Rock dropped the Lone Ranger name to We Got This Covered, and while Dwayne Johnson was clear that no conversations have been had at any level to actually bring Armie Hammer into the film, and that he has no idea if Hammer would even be interested in the part, he is one of "a handful" of potential actors that Johnson thinks would be a solid choice for the title character of Shazam.

It's certainly not a bad choice, of course, that might be why Armie Hammer's name has already been attached to another potential hero within the DCEU, Green Lantern. While Hammer insists that nobody has ever spoken to him about taking on the role of Hal Jordan, his name has been rumored as being in the running for some time. Hammer seems to be open to the idea on its face, so if he's willing to be the Green Lantern, perhaps he's equally willing to play Shazam instead.

The Rock has been on board to play the role of Black Adam for years but the Shazam movie seems to be one of the films on the backburner of the DCEU. Shazam does have a current release date of April 5, 2019, putting it a couple of years away. There's still plenty of time to cast a title character, though if Warner Bros. wants a name it would probably be best to get that person signed up sooner rather than later.
