Jimmy Fallon hosted last night's 74th Annual Golden Globes ceremony, and he had a little help from his The Tonight Show pal Questlove, who took over musical duties for the event. The night came off mostly without a hitch, but the audience really never gets to see the work that goes behind the long and lengthy production. Luckily, Questlove recently explained exactly what it means to create a program like the awards ceremony with someone like Jimmy Fallon. Here's what he had to say about working with Jimmy Fallon on the Globes ceremony.
If you want to work with Fallon on a big event, it looks like you will be putting in some strange hours. Although, we may expect Jimmy Fallon to be a bit of a night owl, considering he works in the late night field, episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon are actually shot during the early evening at 5 p.m, so his schedule doesn't have to be as erratic as Questlove is alluding it is. The Roots musician also told People that he hoped people liked the end result, as planning The Golden Globes was pretty "fun," even if it did mean he had to deal with phone calls in the middle of the night.
Surprisingly, while Questlove had a pretty prominent position on the stage, it felt like Jimmy Fallon took up less of the broadcast's time, although there was still the usual intro piece and opening monologue. Less time with the host didn't mean the show ran short, however. Plenty of people had to be played off by Questlove and the broadcast still cut it pretty close for time. It's always annoying when that happens, too, as a lot of the later categories are the really big ones that people care about more and want to hear more from the celebrities involved.
Still, the whole broadcast was pretty smooth, and I would bet that Jimmy Fallon and Questlove are going to be getting back to fewer nights where one or the other is woken up because of an "aha" moment related to the Golden Globes. If you missed the broadcast, you can take a look at the movies and TV winners. While the 74th Annual Golden Globes are now over, that doesn't mean Jimmy Fallon and Questlove's jobs are done. In fact, we're just now getting back into the groove of winter TV, which means you can catch the two men on NBC on most weeknights, where Questlove plays as part of Fallon's house band.
New episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon air Monday through Friday at 11:35 p.m. ET, only on NBC. To find out what else is hitting the schedule this winter, check out our TV premiere guide.
