Journeyman tells the story of Dan Vasser (Kevin McKidd), a San Francisco reporter caught in a love triangle between his wife, Katie (Gretchen Egolf), and Livia (Moon Bloodgood), a former flame who has suddenly re-entered his life. But here’s the big twist: Livia died nine years ago. And Dan finds himself inexplicably traveling through time to visit her. Needless to say, these physics-defying rendezvous with Livia create complications for Dan in his present-day life. Luckily, there’s a catch that helps Dan assuage his guilt- each time he visits the past, he is not allowed to return to the present until he alters an event to save the life of a stranger.

Remember how ABC used to try to hold on the Lost audience by scheduling something complex and/or supernaturally themed directly after it? None of those shows ever succeeded, due to the fact that the people who watched Lost were either too mentally and emotionally drained to sit through another hour of drama, or were immediately running to the Internet to discuss what just happened on Lost. Journeyman is the lucky show that gets to find out if the same curse will apply to whatever comes on after Heroes.

New NBC president Ben Silverman was excited to create a 3 hour block of sci-fi/supernatural programming on Monday nights this year. But seeing as how the somber promos for Journeyman make it obvious the show won’t be as fun as we expect Chuck to be, and already know Heroes is, I have a feeling that it won’t be long before Hiro Nakamura is back to being the only time-traveling hero on NBC.
