Archer’s third season premiered last week with the incredible “The Man From Jupiter.” It was such a fantastic return for the series, not only by having one of the best guest stars ever in Burt Reynolds, but it also was oddly poignant in making Archer confront some of his mother issues. Of course, it’s doubtful that any of the revelations learned by Code Name Duchess in the premiere will be taken to heart. In fact, just the preview for this week’s “El Contador” shows that our hero has an especially short-term memory when it comes to retaining lessons.
And besides, who would possibly want Archer to grow up? Well, besides his mother, his co-workers at ISIS and most people he comes into contact with? Too bad for them, we like our hero just the way he is, largely un-heroic and super childish. This week finds a few changes happening at ISIS that don’t particularly sit well with the team, mainly the decision to make Syril a field agent as well as instituting a drug testing policy. If you know anything about Syril and/or the team that works at ISIS (Cheryl, Pam, Syril, Dr. Krieger and Archer), then you know that these changes should be met with some stiff opposition (and probably some stiff drinks and drugs as well). Hell, even Malory, who seems to be the one behind the new testing would probably fail four times out of five.
The preview for “El Contador” is a little light on the company drug testing aspect of the episode and instead focuses on Syril’s first time in the field. It looks like it goes, uh, really well. Okay, so he should up looking ready for a safari and after they are (instantly) taken captive, he kind fo vanishes from the rest of the preview. Something tells me that his unusual spy garb either saves his ass ro condemns it. Either way, the other two real spies are forced to play the most dangerous game (for those who don’t know hunting humans is apparently the most dangerous game… I’d say Yahtzee!) and Archer acts as chivalrous as always.
