I have a love/meh relationship with HBO's Bored to Death. Sometimes I think it's great, but when it's bad I can't seem to work up the energy to actually hate it. Upon first hearing the concept -- a struggling, pot-smoking writer begins pretending to be a private detective in order to find inspiration -- I was intrigued. The cast was solid, with Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, and Zach Galifianakis forming the core trifecta. In execution, however, it's been a hit or miss affair, and for the longest time, I couldn't put my finger on why. Finally I decided it came down to Schwartzman. He's a fine actor, but the guy just bugs me. When the show is firing on all cylinders, that can be enough to overpower the Scwartzman factor for me, but that doesn't always happen.

Obviously, my Schwartzman irritation is not shared by everyone, because Bored to Death is returning for a third season on HBO this October 10th. HBO has released a trailer for the new season to help spread the word, but if you were hoping for clips or any insight into what the new episodes might hold, prepare to be disappointed. Instead you'll get Schwartzman, Danson, and Galifianakis running amok in an amusement park. Which is entertaining in its own way, but still.
