Community Brings In OK Ratings But Drops From Last Week's Episode

There’s good rating news for Community, though it’s a bit dampened by a couple of factors that should be taken into consideration. The good news is, Community did decently last night. In fact, it was NBC’s top rated comedy of the night. That alone may be enough to cause Jeff Winger’s ego to explode, which is why I’m going to let some of the air out of that bubble.

Community earned itself a 1.7/6 rating among adults 18-49. It took in 3.9 million viewers, which is up a bit from what it was bringing in last fall, but down from last week’s 4.75 million.?

I want to openly celebrate what should be a sort-of win for Community, as 3.9 million is certainly better than the lower numbers it was earning last December, but the dip worries me, especially considering The Big Bang Theory wasn’t on again last night, which meant the NBC comedy didn’t have that ratings juggernaut to contend with. And sure, it’s the highest rated comedy of the night for NBC, but that’s during a night when only two other comedies aired, with 30 Rock airing back to back episodes, followed by the Up All Night, whose numbers are about on par with Community (slightly lower). Parks & Rec and The Office didn’t air last night.

I don’t mean to sound like a pessimist here, but as a fan of the show, and as someone who really wants to see Community return for a fourth season, the drop is concerning. The Big Bang Theory will be back next month, which may cause that number to fall even more. I just hope people start tuning in to give this comedy the numbers it deserves.

On the bright side, “Contemporary Impressions” was a solid episode. If you missed it or need a do-over, NBC has the whole episode posted here.?
