Community Preview: Season 3, Episode 6 - Advanced Gay

Community is finally on a roll this season as the previous two episodes were not just funny but exceptionally well crafted. They were so intricately woven that the jokes could have easily falling by the wayside but creator Dan Harmon - and his amazing cast and crew - weren't about the let that happen. Despite the complex multiple dimension and/or narrative structure used in "Remedial Chaos Theory" and "Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps," the laughs were never sacrificed for cleverness. This week Community is "Going Gay" and it seems that these complicated formulas are thrown aside for a traditional, old fashioned straight story set at Greendale CC.

It seems like quite a while since we've spent an entire episode in the 'normal' college setting. Last week was anchored in the study room but most of the stories unfolded elsewhere (like a spooky cabin). The week prior was a rerun and the one before that was Troy and Abed's housewarming party (or as I like to call it, the introduction of Evil Troy and Evil Abed and the inevitable, Fringe-likem, battle where only one universe can survive... sorry, got a but out of control).

So it's been almost a month since we've got to hang-out with the group at Greendale but this week seems to be firmly rooted in that community, sorry, as we get a few new tricks from our old dog Pierce. The first clip shows Pierce and the group discovering that he's unknowingly entrenched in the gay movement and gay culture thanks to his 'Hawthorne Wipes' (fans of which he calls 'Towelheads'). The second clip finds him, shockingly, taking up the mantle of being Greendale Community College's newest Gay advocate. This won't end well.

Community airs on NBC, Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. It stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole-Brown, Donald Glover, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong and Chevy Chase. It was created by Dan Harmon.
