Delta Burke Joins Counter Culture Pilot At ABC

The latest to come on board the ABC multi-camera comedy pilot Counter Culture will be Delta Burke, rounding out the four female leading roles for the project. Burke is the last of the three sisters around whom the story resolves to be cast.

According to Deadline Burke will play the middle sister, Nonie in the pilot. The project focuses on three sisters who run a diner in West Texas. The other sisters will be played by Kerri Kenney of Reno 911 and Margo Martindale of Justified. Also on board for the project is Everybody Love Raymond alum Doris Roberts. Roberts will play an aunt to the three sisters.

Delta Burke has made the rounds to a number of different series since leaving the show that most people remember her for, Designing Women where she played a wealthy divorcee, and has had some recurring gigs on Boston Legal and Touched By An Angel. She also guested on Drop Dead Diva a few years back, but hasn’t been seen much since. In the new project she plays a put upon middle sister. It will take her back to her comedy roots and also let her play the Southern woman she really is, which makes it sound like a pretty good fit for her.

Although the premise for this project sounds a little formulaic, the cast being assembled for the project is certainly interesting and the right dynamic between the four women could make the project an interesting one.
