Diddy Is Back For More Band, More Drama

Because the summertime airwaves just can’t get enough of self-absorbed impresarios, the fourth edition of ‘Making the Band’ debut tomorrow night at 10 p.m. on MTV. Led as always by Sean “Diddy” Combs, the show will follow the mogul’s attempt to put together the ultimate male R&B group. Last season’s band, the all-female Dannity Kane, achieved moderate success, going platinum last fall.

The process of selecting the band has, for the first time, partly been given over to the fans. On the show’s MTV website the hopefuls uploaded their singing audition videos for the site’s visitors to choose their favorites. And on the show’s MySpace page many of the finalists are already listed in the friends list; speculation has already begun as to who the final five will be.

Previews for the show here seem to indicate the typical level of reality TV drama, with recording studio fights and not one but two instances of police sirens. While there’s no word on whether Diddy will send anyone to get him cheesecake (or, in Dave Chappelle’s version, a sugar cookie), there can be no mistake that, in classic Trump fashion, this show is actually all about Diddy.

If nothing else,as provedby the preview below, this season will be worth watching for the dancing alone. Come for the footwork, stay for the fights, that’s what I always say.
