Free Agents Preview: NBC Comedy Starring Anthony Head, Hank Azaria And Kathryn Hahn

Premiering tomorrow night on NBC is the U.S. adaptation of the popular British comedy Free Agents. Based on what series stars Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn have to say on the show, Free Agents isn’t a fairytale. In fact, it’s sort of an “anti-romantic comedy.”

Based on a British comedy starring Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Free Agents (US) also stars Anthony Head, along with Hank Azaria (Huff, The Simpsons), and Kathryn Hahn (Step Brothers, Crossing Jordan) and follows Alex (Azaria) and Helen (Hahn) as two coworkers who end up in bed together and are left to decide if they should combine their baggage and continue the relationship, or run in the opposite direction.

Azaria and Hahn spoke with the press earlier this week about the series and both admitted to having a “talent crush” on the other, before having worked together on the show. “I had a feeling we’d sort of speak the same language, creatively,” Azaria said of his co-star. As for the series itself, as Azaria describes it, Free Agents is about “real emotion, real problems, real sadness. It’s also really funny.” And Hahn says the humor is the “right amount of lowbrow and highbrow that just hits me right in the funny bone.”

The show had me interested from the names Kathryn Hahn, Hank Azaria, and Anthony Head, not to mention John Enbom (Party Down) as creator/adaptor of the series. If that isn’t enough to sell you on the series, check out these clips and tune in for the premiere on Wednesday, September 14th 10:30/9:30c on NBC.
