Gold Mining Series Bamazon Headed To History Channel
History Channel is starting a new gold rush; sending a group of Alabama construction workers into the Amazon jungle in search of the gold that has been sought in that region for centuries. Many people have gone in looking for it, and most have come out changed if they come out at all – but will the Amazon change the “’Bama Boys”, or will the change the Amazon?
If there’s one thing you can say for the American spirit, it’s that determination and the single-minded conviction that there is no challenge that can’t be overcome if you just try hard enough gets them into – and out of – some interesting situations. History Channel’s new adventure reality series seems to be determined to prove that one more time. Bamazon’s title seems to indicate that the conclusion is a foregone one – there’s no guarantee they’ll find gold, but there is certainly a guarantee they’ll perform the search with a very particular Southern American charm.
The new series follows a group of 8 Alabama men led by Tim Evans – a man who made millions in construction until the real estate crash left him at a loss. Apparently for him, the Amazon is the next frontier. The group will lug a pile of heavy equipment (including large chainsaws as the above first look photo indicates) into the Amazon in an attempt to strike it rich over a period of 6 weeks. Since none of them has ever mined for anything, much less gold, before, it’s certainly a mission built on good old American guts, and perhaps a few delusions.
Bamazon premieres December 9th at 10 p.m. ET on History.
