Kaplan Leaves Unwatched MSNBC

The captain doesn’t always go down with the ship. Sometimes he jumps off and starts swimming before the sinking begins. That may be the case with Rick Kaplan, who’s just left his post as the head of third place cable news network MSNBC.

It’s only been two and a half years since he took the job, but in his tenure MSNBC has continued to lag well behind Fox News and CNN in the cable news war. Whether he actually left voluntarily or was pushed out is probably open to discussion. The official word is that he stepped down, but NBC News President Steve Capus told The Washington Post that the decision was “mutually agreed upon”.

It’s not all bad at MSNBC. They have made ratings gains this past year, even if they are dead last. But they’ve been last so long, a little bit of ratings gain is likely no longer enough for their higher ups. They’ve got ads to sell.

Ultimately, none of you probably care since, let’s face it, you’re not watching MSNBC anyway. If you were, Kaplan would probably still be tehre. Why watch anything? Get your news from the internet.
