Laura Prepon Says Are You There Chelsea Is Like An Updated Cheers

As we mentioned earlier when we weighed in with our thoughts on NBC’s new comedy, Are You There, Chelsea is set to debut tonight. In anticipation of the premiere, NBC shared this video interview, which features star Laura Prepon as she talks about the series, which has her sharing scenes with Chelsea Handler.

Prepon, known for her starring role in That 70’s Show, among other parts, spoke about the new comedy series, offering some reasons for why viewers should tune in and hinting at what's in store for the show. As part of Chelsea takes place in a bar, the star mentions another former NBC series which featured a bar backdrop:

“I always kind of say that we have an element on our show of like an updated Cheers. But, the only difference is, you wouldn’t have seen Cheers get away with the kind of stuff that we get away with nowadays. Now there’s this great resurgence of female driven comedies right now...”

Here’s the full video interview, and you can read our review of the series premiere here:

Are You There, Chelsea? premieres premieres tonight (Wednesday, January 11th) at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
