NBC's The Black Donnellys Premieres Tonight

Scorcese’s The Departed, which just won the Best Picture Oscar centered on the Irish Mafia in Boston. I don’t know about anyone else but that film left me with a craving more Irish organized crime drama. It looks like NBC has the luck of the Irish on their side because they managed to schedule the premiere of their new drama ‘The Black Donnellys’ to take place the day after Scorcese’s hit took home the Academy Award.

Speaking of the Oscars, the new show was created by Academy Award winners Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco (Crash). ‘The Black Donnellys’ centers on four Irish-American brothers living the mobster life in New York City. It’s narrated by their friend Joey “Ice Cream”, a wannabe gangster. According to NBC’s website, the plot is described as, a gritty series that follows the “Donnelly brothers' sudden involvement in organized crime, focusing on how they go from boys to mobsters, and showing how their new life affects their relationships with friends, family and lovers.”

‘The Black Donnellys’ premieres tonight, Monday, February 26, 2007 at 10 PM EST on NBC. If you’re reading this after Monday night and you’ve just realized you missed the first episode, catch the rerun on Thursday night (3/1) at 10:00 PM EST on NBC
