NBC Pulls The Plug On The Paul Reiser Show

Well, I hope you weren’t enjoying The Paul Reiser Show, or planning to watch it in the future as NBC has decided to pull the plug on the series after just two episodes.

Paul Reiser’s comedy series The Paul Reiser Show premiered earlier this month and according to the Hollywood Reporter, took in 3.3 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. The ratings slipped down to 2.5 million viewers for last night’s episode and the decline is apparently enough of a reason for the network to decide to cancel the series.

The Reporter quotes Reiser commenting on how quickly the show was moved to the line-up, “Literally 20 days ago [NBC] said, ‘We’re putting you up,’ and we said, ‘OK, great.”

While it’s not uncommon for new shows to premiere at this time of year (see: ABC’s Happy Endings or Fox’s Breaking In), there didn’t seem to be a lot of promos for The Paul Reiser Show leading up to the premiere. At least, not compared to NBC’s upcoming singing competition The Voice. Perhaps the network was banking on Reiser’s name to draw in viewers. If that’s the case, not nearly enough Mad About You fans tuned in to keep the show afloat. It also had the second half of American Idol’s results show to compete with.

NBC will air reruns of The Office at 8:30 p.m. starting next week.
