NBC Shelves Best Friends Forever After Four Episodes

After only four episodes aired and less than a month’s time, NBC has pulled Best Friends Forever from its lineup. After dropping sharply in the ratings, the newbie series has been put on the shelf until the summer, or at least that’s the word for now. It wouldn’t be the first, or last, time that a show has been shelved never to return.

The series, from Jessica St. Claire and Lennon Parhmam, who both starred in and produced it, simply couldn’t seem to pull enough ratings to stay in the game. The show followed two best friends who were separated to opposite ends of the country. Divorce brought them back to the same apartment they once shared in Brooklyn, where apparently they were to be best friends forever. Sadly, in the world of television, forever is a slightly shorter time than one would expect. Say, in the realm of four episodes or so.

With May sweeps coming up, a new series hurting in the ratings isn’t a liability most networks are willing to carry, so the show is on the shelf until summer, according to TVLine. Whether the comedy will actually return is yet to be seen. In the meantime, the show’s slot will be filled by an extra episode of Betty White’s Off Their Rocker. The Golden Girl is apparently a better ratings draw – not too shabby for 90 years old.

The series’ producers are looking to air the fifth and sixth episodes online, so stay tuned if you’re a fan of the show; if they surface we’ll be sure to let you know.
