Once Upon A Time Finds Its Sleeping Beauty

When I said more interesting casting news was likely to follow Jamie Chung’s addition to Once Upon a Time today, I didn’t think it would be quite this soon. But here it is: the latest actress to join the second season of the series in a mythical role will be The Tudors’ Sarah Bolger, and she’ll take on another fairy tale role made famous by Disney.

Bolger, who played Henry Tudor’s daughter Mary, the eventual Queen of England who came to be known as Bloody Mary on the Showtime series, has been cast for Season 2 of the fairy tale series. TV Line says Bolger is taking the classic fairy tale role of Sleeping Beauty, otherwise known as Princess Aurora. The news was released only hours after Jamie Chung’s casting as Chinese warrior Mulan was reported, making that a quick one-two punch in the female casting department for Once Upon a Time.

The role is set to be a pretty big one on the upcoming season, her first recurring TV role since The Tudors wrapped in 2010. She also recently had a starring role in ABC’s Shonda Rhimes pilot Gilded Lilys which unfortunately for Bolger wasn’t picked up. That doesn’t seem to concern her though, since she’s also got a few movies on the way in addition to the new Once Upon a Time role.

So that’s two roles filled for Season 2; which Disney princess might be next for the roster, if any? You just never know in a place like Storybrooke, where everyone is a piece of the fairy tale.
