The Scientific Mistake The Daily Show Fixed, According To Neil DeGrasse Tyson

It’s a little early to tell if Trevor Noah will be a great fit for The Daily Show. The newly minted host only hit the schedule last night, but there’s at least one thing for certain that Noah’s show is getting right, and Neil deGrasse Tyson thankfully tipped us off to it. You can check out his hilarious commentary about the Earth’s rotation, below.

If you watched The Daily Show with Trevor Noah's opening episode, you probably saw Noah pay tribute to Jon Stewart in his opening monologue, as well as crack jokes about growing up in South Africa. While he outwardly paid tribute to the host who came before him, during his introductory sequence, his team reworked the opening so that the Earth would actually be spinning in the correct direction. Now it looks like this:

”earth

The change is a nod to the fact that Jon Stewart’s opening sequence did not have the Earth rotating in the proper direction, a fact that deGrasse Tyson actually made Stewart privy to during an entertaining and informative episode of The Daily Show a few years ago.

Jon Stewart’s team eventually corrected the mistake, but Noah’s addition of the correctly spinning globe is a nice nod to his predecessor and seems to have endeared him to Tyson a bit. Hopefully, that means we’ll get an appearance from the astrophysicist, writer and TV personality sometime soon.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah airs on weeknights on Comedy Central at 11:30 p.m. ET. Here’s what else is coming up this fall.
