Simpson's Writer Back With Zombie Homage

For seven years, Dana Gould wrote and co-produced ‘The Simpsons.’ He also toured the country performing stand-up comedy and appeared in the hilariously underrated ‘The Aristocrats.’ After the production rapped on Homer and friends last spring, Gould quietly left, eager to make his own mark on the broadcasted landscape. It now appears one of his pitches fell on friendly ears.

According to Variety, the comedian’s sitcom idea about a man trying to pick up the pieces after a world wide zombie outbreak, is getting a warm reception from Comedy Central. The laugher, tentatively titled ‘The Last Larry’, is being described as Shaun Of The Dead with a few elements of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ thrown into the mix. I'm not really sure where the 'BSG' influence will come in; however, I'm certainly not going to complain about producers emulating one of the best shows on television.

The strength of the program will probably come from its reported focus on little mundane details. Rather than addressing the zombie outbreak as a whole, the show will spend most of its energies covering Larry’s everyday life. It’s almost like a post-apocalyptic ‘Seinfeld.’

Gould is currently penning a script; so, you probably won’t be able to see this for quite some time. If nothing else, this certainly does break the mold of conventional sitcoms of yesteryear. I don’t know about you, but a blend of Shaun Of The Dead and ‘Battlestar Galactica’ is just what I need.
