“Everything about Season 2 is bigger, stronger, and more painful,” says Spartacus creator Steven DeKnight. He describes the new season as "epic." Judging by the behind-the-scenes footage in this video, it looks like he’s right about that. Starz released a video featuring the series as the cast members are hard at work on set of Spartacus: Vengeance.

Things are looking dirty and violent on set of Spartacus: Vengeance. It’s also a lot bluer and greener than you’d expect. That’ll make more sense when you watch the video.

Is anyone else excited to see how things go with Liam McIntyre as Spartacus? I have a good feeling about him.

In addition to all of the excellent fight scenes it looks like we’re in for, I’m also very excited to see Ilithyia’s story pick up. When Blood and Sand ended, we last saw her ordering her servants to lock the door behind her, leaving everyone else locked inside, left to die at the hands of Spartacus and the other revolting gladiators. Well, we know Lucretia survived, which means Ilithyia will have to answer for her choice. Viva Bianca mentioned that little loose end in the video above. I can only imagine how that awkward conversation will go when she inevitably comes face to face with Lucretia.

Spartacus: Vengeance premieres January 2012 on Starz.
