TV Recap: Heroes - Chapter 10 - Truth and Consequences

Before we get into tonight’s episode of Heroes, titled “Truth and Consequences,” I need to get this little rant off my chest. Maya, you are a moron. Honestly. The girl was able to see that her new sister-in-law was going to cheat on her brother so we know she’s not that naïve but can someone please explain to me how she’s able to ignore the extreme creepy-factor that Sylar/Gabriel oozes with every syllable of every word he speaks? Is that black gunk oozing from her eyes completely blinding her from seeing that he is clearly a homicidal maniac?!

Since I started with the idiotic telenovela that is Maya and Gabriel’s budding relationship, I might as well keep going with that. Maya might be totally smitten by Gabriel’s “charm” but Alejandro sees right through it. He does his research on Gabriel and quickly learns about how he killed his mother. Alejandro breaks the news to Maya, after which Sylar quickly appeals to her sensitive nature. He says its not his fault, his mother called him a monster, she tried to kill him, blah blah blah. Maya eats all of this up. Earlier in the episode, Sylar got Maya so worked up that her powers came out. As he was getting all black-eyed and weak, he convinced her that she could control it. Sure enough, she gets a grip on her power. So between her newfound control of her abilities, added to her gratitude towards Sylar for helping her do it and the fact that she no longer needs her brother to keep her in check, it didn’t take much for Sylar to convince her to come with him and leave her brother behind. And to rub salt into Alejandro’s open wound, Maya tells him that she secretly wanted his wife to die for what she did.

Alejandro’s not going to give up his sister that easily though and makes the unfortunate choice to visit Sylar in his motel room later on. The confrontation doesn’t last long and ends with a knife stuck in Alejandro’s chest. As he lays dead or dying on the floor, Maya shows up to talk to him more about leaving and how happy she is that she’s made this choice. They make out for a bit. Seriously – the only thing that could’ve made this scene cheesier was if Sylar were standing their wet and shirtless throughout the whole thing. Oh wait… he was. Meanwhile, Maya has no idea that her brother’s bloody body is on the other side of the door. If there’s one good thing about Alejandro being out of the picture it’s that we can probably expect fewer scenes with subtitles in next week’s episode.

Hiro and Ando set off to find out more about Kensei. They quickly realize what the rest of us already knew. That Kensei’s been around for centuries and now goes by the name Adam Monroe. Hiro goes back in time to witness Adam trying to steal the virus from The Company and ending up incarcerated. He sees Victoria (the mysterious woman from the old-Heroes photo that Matt found out about last week) quit The Company, refusing to be a part of the project anymore because of the strain of virus that could wipe out mankind (the one Adam was trying to steal).

While this is happening, Adam and Peter (who believes Adam is going to help him destroy the virus) find Victoria. Adam waits outside while Peter talks to her about wanting to kill the virus before it gets out. But when she finds out that Adam is there, she shoots them both with her big shotgun. They both heal quickly, disarm her and tie her up so that Peter can read her mind and find out where the virus is. It’s in Texas. Victoria tries to tell Peter that Adam wants to let the virus out but Peter chooses to believe Adam is a good guy. Adam unties Victoria and when she goes for her shotgun, he shoots her. After Peter leaves, he puts his trademark bloody photo on her body and the two set off for Texas. Peter and Hiro run into each other there. Once again, the fact that Peter is running with this season’s resident bad-boy causes him to appear to be on the wrong side. Like Victoria, Hiro tries to tell Peter that Adam’s up to no good and again, Peter doesn’t believe it. The episode ends with Hiro running at Peter (who has a fist full of electricity) with his sword.

As we saw at the end of last week’s episode, Mohinder was able to use Claire’s blood to save Bennet’s life. Claire doesn’t know that though. Bob awkwardly presented the Bennet family with the urn that supposedly holds Noah’s ashes. He tells them that he’s sorry for their loss and that they’re allowed to leave to go live normal lives – yeah right. He has his daughter Elle, who is still healing from her gunshot wound, tail the Bennets to make sure they actually leave town as planned. Bob had the nerve to tell Elle that she needs to regain his trust. I guess Elle’s not ready to call him out for the experiments he did on her when she was younger. It’s only a matter of time though.

There’s some corny scenes between West and Claire that aren’t really worth mentioning and after they scatter the ashes, they see Elle watching them. Claire threatens to go public with her abilities if Elle and her dad don’t leave them alone.

Mohinder was able to use Claire’s blood to find a cure for the virus that Niki has. He sets off to take the cure to her when he gets a call from Sylar. If he was unhappy and shocked to learn that the evil villain was alive, it would be an understatement to say that he was just as unnerved to learn that Sylar was standing over Molly’s sleeping body when he made the call.

The only semi-unrelated arc to the episode involved Micah’s cousin attempting to sell his comics, which resulted in a bunch of guys stealing Micah’s backpack. Niki, who has returned to be with Micah, urges her son to let the police handle the ordeal. But D.L.’s fireman medal was in the bag and Micah wants it back. He and Monica head out in the middle of the night to retrieve the bag and Monica ends up getting caught by the thieves, who were apparently about to torch the building. At the end of the episode, Micah sees the guys throw Monica into the back of a van. Not good.

As you can see by the lengthy recap, this episode was jam-packed with build-up for next week’s big episode (which could be the last one of the season).
