As television shows began rolling out their new season episodes there was a flurry of finalist college bowl games and NFL division playoffs to contend with. All that football was enough to supress newbie crime solving sensation The Mentalist as the show headed into its first Spring season, keeping it from starting off at number one.
But there was one crime solver who shot straight to the top. Monk debuted its new season with an impressive cable ratings share of 3.2. With all the competition in cable its tough for anyone besides Spongebob or Icarly to hold a regular place in the top ten but there's a good chance television's favorite obsessive compulsive detective will remain in the spotlight.
NBC has struggled to keep a presence in the top ten lately but its coverage of the Golden Globes Award pulled in enough viewers to sneak into seventh place. Too bad they only come once a year.
