Beatbuddy's Story Receiving Some TLC From Rhianna Pratchett
Upcoming music-infused indie action platformer, Beatbuddy, is receiving a sprucing up in the writing department as Rhianna prepares to lend a hand. No, not THAT Rihanna. Totally different spelling and everything. I'm talking about the award-winning writer, Rhianna Pratchett.
Developed by Threaks and published by Reverb, Beatbuddy puts a new spin on the action platforming genre, incorporating music into every aspect of the game and letting the player interact with all of the rhythmic pieces.
As the story goes, Pratchett learned about the game from a friend, Austin Wintory, who is working on a song and level for the game. Pratchett, Writers' Guild of Great Britain award winner and a BAFTA-nominated writer, said she was instantly intrigued.
“No matter what you've written in the past, it's the challenges and the people you work with who really matter,” Pratchett said. “I cut my teeth on smaller indie titles, so it's great to get to do more work in that space again with the Threaks team.”
Since her days working on indies, Pratchett has gone on to work on the Overlord series, as well as Heavenly Sword, Mirror's Edge and the newest Tomb Raider game. According to the official statement from Reverb, Pratchett will be “assisting with polishing the script and storyline” for Beatbuddy.
“When we started the story of Beatbuddy last year, we initially held off contacting Rhianna because we assumed that she'd be too busy or might not be interested in a small indie project,” said art director Denis Rogic. “It turned out that it was exactly the kind of thing she was looking for. It's truly amazing knowing that we have Austin Wintory and Rhianna Pratchett providing their talents to our game.”
And we'll all be able to see how that relationship pans out later this year when Beatbuddy arrives on PC, Mac and Linux.
