A new batch of screenshots from Killzone: Shadow Fall were released by Sony during E3. The star of the screenshots is Vekta, the planet at the heart of Shadow Fall's plot.

Shadow Fall begins 30 years after Killzone 3. Helghan, the home planet of the Helghast, has been devastated by the war with the ISA. The ISA allows refugees from Helghan to settle on planet Vekta in a walled-off section of the city. However, as the first gameplay footage revealed, the two factions don't stay amicable for long.

What really impresses me about the screenshots is how varied the environments are. Killzone 2 felt like it took place in one long gritty corridor. Guerrilla fixed this in KZ3 somewhat, introducing environments like swamps and snowy tundra. Shadow Fall takes this further, with a few shots depicting a lush forest.

Killzone: Shadow Fall will be a launch title for the PS4. The game and console will both debut this holiday season.
