The upcoming resurrection of the Muppets has had a lot of fun fooling the audience by parodying other movies. It started with a teaster for a fake rom-com called Green with Envy and culminated today in this Green Lantern parody. Now it looks like Alvin and the Chipmunks is trying to do the same thing, except of course, Alvin and the Chipmunks are awful and unfunny.

In my mind the modern incarnation of Alvin and the Chipmunks movies stand for everything the Muppets are opposed to. It is, quite clearly, easy, lowest-common denominator family entertainment shoved out into theaters to make a quick buck without any real thought given to what they’re delivering to their audience. This first teaser for the third Alvin movie, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, manages to embody all of that in under thirty seconds by attempting an awful parody of Titanic.
