Atwell, Beckinsale And Kruger All Up For A Lead Role Opposite Tom Cruise In Horizons![]()
As of late last month, news broke that Jessica Chastain nabbed one of two big female roles in the the Joseph Kosinski directed Horizons, which is set to star Tom Cruise, and previously went by the title Oblivion. Now it looks as though the list has been narrowed down to three women who are up for the other female lead.
Judging by the names Deadline mentions, it looks as though gorgeous and European are the two common threads between these women. According to Deadline, Hayley Atwell (Captain America), Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) and Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) made the short list for the part of the second female lead, and all three women are set to read for the part these weekend in Pittsburgh, where Cruise is busy filming One Shot. Horizons is set in the future and will star Cruise as a man left behind on earth to repair drones while the rest of the human population lives in the clouds above the surface of the earth somewhere. The drones Cruise’ character is tasked to repair are meant to seek out and destroy alien lifeforms. At some point, Cruise’ character will encounter “a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together forces him to question his world view.” Just as it was unknown whether Chastain was cast to play Cruise’s wife or the beautiful (possibly alien?) woman, Deadline doesn’t specify exactly which of the two female leads these three women are up for. The “beautiful” part of the description doesn’t exactly narrow it down either. One this is for certain, this film will be substantially prettier, no matter which of these women is cast, assuming one of them manages to win the part. |
