Danny Boyle Confirms Interest In 28 Months Later, But It's A While Off
One of the big news stories of yesterday came from comments by Danny Boyle that he would like to return to the 28 _____ Later series with a third installment. Since then, an interview with writer Alex Garland was dug up that revealed that getting the rights would prove difficult, as the two former partners that control them are no longer on speaking terms. At the same time it would be awesome to see Boyle get back into the virus-infested world he created, but sadly, if it does happen, it won't be for a while.
STYD recently attended a screening of 127 Hours with Boyle who addressed the rumor by confirming that he is interested, but slowed it by saying that it would likely not happen for a few years. According to the director, his schedule is currently jammed-packed but if fans really want to see another installment then it will likely happen. Boyle is currently working on a staged version of Frankenstein in London and has been tapped to direct the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
While I am one of those rare fans that was satisfied by both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, I'm simply not sure that we need another sequel. While it would be great to see Boyle back on board, the series doesn't have any bad loose ends sticking out that would require another story to be told. As much as we might like the two films, I think this may be an instance where less is more.
