Guy Ritchie Directing Excalibur? image
Arthurian legend seems to be the new, hot property in Hollywood. Bryan Singer is working on some form of Excalibur movie, but there’s another, competing Excalibur in production written by Warren Ellis. And now that version is rumored to have an equally high-profile director. Pajiba says Sherlock Holmes helmer Guy Ritchie is may be attached to direct.

The difference between Ritchie and Singer’s version it would seem is that Singer’s is more of a direct remake of the classic Excalibur film wheras Ritchie’s is reported to be more in the mold of Star Wars. It’s more specifically about the gathering of Arthur’s knights.

There’s a wrench in the gears though. Both of these directors are pretty busy with other projects. Singer has X-Men: First Class and Battlestar Galactica also in the works while last we heard Ritchie was supposed to be fast tracking a Sherlock Holmes 2. In fact a few weeks ago here we learned that Warners was in such a rush to get a Sherlock sequel done that Ritchie was forced to abandon his planned adaptation of DC Comics Lobo. That has to mean that we won’t be seeing either Richie or Singer’s take on Excalibur, if indeed either of them ever happen, any time soon.
