Book lovers who sighed a relief when Breaking Dawn hit shelves in 2008, thinking the Twilight madness was over for good, were probably confused and horrified when they started seeing those black book jackets and Stephenie Meyers' name all over the place again earlier this year. That was all thanks to The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, a spinoff novella about a girl enlisted to the army of newborn vampires that go after Bella at the end of Eclipse. When Meyer announced that she was publishing the book Eclipse director David Slade had already taken a look at the book, and it took no great genius to assume that Hollywood would happily cash in on Bree Tanner the same way they had the Twilight series as a whole.

Now Australia's What's Playing has a tipster reporting what we all could have guessed-- Summit is developing Bree Tanner as a film, giving them added cash flow after Breaking Dawn wraps up the franchise in 2012. And though up-and-comer Jodelle Ferland played the character in Eclipse, the studio is apparently eyeing bigger names for the spinoff-- Chloe Moretz and Elle Fanning have both been mentioned so far, though you could probably sub in any actress under the age of 18 as having a reasonable shot. Expect an official announcement about this sooner or later, and for the Twilight franchise to live on so, so much longer than you ever feared.
