Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS: Sydney episode “Lone Wolf: Part Two” are ahead!
Ever since Travis “Trigger” Riggs was introduced in the NCIS: Sydney Season 3 premiere, I’ve been waiting to learn more about him. We got a pretty big nugget for Claude Jabbour’s character when it was revealed that he lost his bomb tech job because he failed his psychological evaluation because it was suspected he had a death wish. Trigger’s backstory was finally fully shared last week on the 2026 TV schedule with “Lone Wolf: Part One,” and tonight’s “Lone Wolf: Part Two” wrapped up the storyline. Although JD was dealt a devastating blow in the process, I’m more curious about where things go between Trigger and Evie Cooper on Sydney from this point forward.
JD And Trigger Lost A Friend
First off, I owe an apology to JD and Trigger’s AFP colleague Rory Latham. I suspected last week that he robbed a bank with Jason Wright 10 years ago, then arranged for the raid on Jason’s apartment to have him killed and cover his tracks. That was completely wrong, although there was still some manipulation on Rory’s part. It turns out that Jason’s son Timothy was right, his late father hadn’t been reaching for his gun, but rather his asthma inhaler. Knowing that shooting an unarmed man would essentially destroy Trigger’s career, Rory planted a gun he owned personally with the serial number scratched off so that he could keep the then-rookie in the clear.
Article continues belowHowever, he’ll never answer for this spur-of-the-moment action in a professional capacity. Though Trigger successfully got the bomb collar off Evie that Timothy placed on her at the end of “Lone Wolf: Part One” (which you cans stream with a Paramount+ subscription), Rory was killed by a second bomb planted in a car near where he was standing. Trigger and JD both went way back with Rory, but since Trigger was at the hospital when that explosion was triggered, we only saw JD be heartbroken over his friend’s death. The two men were later pallbearers at Rory’s funeral, which Timothy also attempted to bomb from prison, but thankfully Trigger averted that with Evie’s help.
I Think An Evie And Trigger Romance Is Coming
Ever since NCIS: Sydney Season 3 resumed at the beginning of the month, I’ve been getting a vibe that Evie and Trigger like each other more than just as work colleagues. We still don’t know what specifically happened between them during that night of bowling besides that they drank a lot. Well, now I’m convinced that this show is setting up a romance between the two.
First off, Evie and Trigger both saved each other’s lives in “Lone Wolf: Part Two,” so it’s hard to imagine that alone wouldn’t bring them closer together. Second, Evie learned that Trigger had her listed as his next of kin at the hospital, so clearly he thinks a lot of her. Third, Trigger looked like he was finally able to make peace with the death of his fiancée Charlotte when he asked for Evie’s help with disarming the church bomb. Finally, he showed up at the end of the episode to see Evie at her apartment with beer in hand, and when she asked why he was there, he just awkwardly smiled.
I’m not saying Evie and Trigger are now automatically a couple, but I will be shocked if NCIS: Sydney isn’t planning on pairing them together romantically.. After all, this procedural franchise has a history of having two main characters become more than just teammates. And if there isn’t time to effectively explore this new dynamic as the remaining Season 2 episodes air Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, there’s always Sydney Season 3 in the fall!
