Before 20th Century Fox lets him run off and direct the next X-Men movie, Days of Future Past, Bryan Singer has a commitment to his long-gestating Jack the Giant Slayer, which finally has a solid 2013 release date after months of post-production and calendar hopping.

With the new trailer attached to prints of The Hobbit (meaning you’ll likely see it in theaters this weekend), the studio is choosing to ramp up its promotional campaign for Jack, starting with an official poster that was shared on Yahoo Movies. You can see the trailer by heading over here but below we have the new one-sheet for you:

It’s all the rage nowadays to reimagine classic fantasy stories from our youth as action-driven franchise launchers, from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland to the hit film . That’s what Singer seems to be going for, following Jack (Nicholas Hoult, who played Beast in X-Men: First Class) up the beanstalk to a land where he’s about the size of a salt shaker. He fights off giants as he tries to survive, and maybe rescue a fair maiden while he’s at it.

Singer hasn’t directed a film since Valkyrie, so we’re anxious to see what he has up his sleeve before he gets back into the X-Men universe. He surrounded Hoult with a great cast, from Ewan McGregor and Ian McShane to Stanley Tucci and the great Bill Nighy. At the very least, they should make Jack the Giant Slayer watchable. What do you think of the poster?
