The Last Exorcism Part II Trailer Leaves The Found Footage Format Behind
Back in 2000 Joe Berlinger directed a sequel to the horror hit The Blair Witch Project - but he decided to make one little stylistic change. While the first film was built on "is this real?" hype lent to it by the found footage format, Berlinger decided to abandon that cinematography for Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2. And the results were absolutely disastrous. Not only was the movie eviscerated by critics, it was a total box office flop, pulling in only $26 million during its domestic run (which is pennies next to the $140 million the first one made). It will be interesting to see if The Last Exorcism Part II suffers the same fate.
The first trailer for the horror sequel has arrived online, and while the first movie in the series, which was released back in 2010, was part of the found footage subgenre it has been revealed that Part II is not. That said, the film actually looks like it could be decent, but time will only tell. Meanwhile, check out the preview below, which originated over on Yahoo!
Directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly, The Last Exorcism Part II picks up with Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell), who had been possessed by a demon in the last movie, being discovered terrified and alone in the woods of Louisiana. Brought back to civilization she tries to restart her life, but discovers that the spirit that once inhabited her isn't quite done yet. Julia Garner, Spencer Treat Clark, and Louis Herthum co-star in the film, which will be in theaters on March 1st.
