The Lone Ranger Will Ride On To Blu-ray And DVD In December
The Lone Ranger could have been a huge summer success story. With a large budget, direction from Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise helmer Gore Verbinski and the added credit of starring Johnny Depp, it looked so good on paper. After dealing with budgetary issues and getting its release date pushed back several times, however, the movie didnít make as deep of a box office impact as Walt Disney Studios was probably hoping. Now, the company is trying to make a little money back with filmís home entertainment release. The Lone Ranger will hit Blu-ray, DVD, Digital and On Demand on December 17.
Itís hard to put Armie Hammer in a lead role next to the loud, comical and wild Johnny Depp and expect the Social Network actor to stand out and play the hero. Orlando Bloom was able to step up and do it in Pirates, but that script made it a whole lot easier on him. Here, Hammer plays the title character alongside Deppís Tonto. Together, the two team up to take down some raider bad guys who are doing some dirty deals related to a silver mine in the wild west. There are explosions, plenty of cool camera shots and some fun to be had. You can check out the Blu-ray trailer, below.
Itís an explosive couple hours of fun, and several times The Lone Ranger surpasses its lukewarm plotline and gives fans reasons to truly invest in the film. The Blu-ray release is for the fans who were more than luke warm, though. It lists for a rather expensive $39.99, although Amazon has it available for pre-order at a sale price. Those who havenít caught the movie may want to consider catching it On Demand or even via the easy breezy Digital Release.
The Blu-ray release will be the set that comes with all of the bonus features, although select Digital retailers will offer the occasional extra. Thus, if you plan to buy digitally and thereís one bonus feature you are really excited about seeing, keep your eyes peeled for the right retailer. Itís annoying, I know, but thereís not a high chance that youíre buying The Lone Ranger for its extras, which include a deleted scene and some behind-the-scenes featurettes.
