We’re just a few weeks away from the arrival of the much anticipated Cloverfield (aka 1-18-08), although it’s probably fair to say some of that anticipation has died down. After all, there hasn’t been a new image added to www.1-18-08.com since the movie’s official title was announced. There’s more reason to get excited about the release, however, since the teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams Star Trek will be attached to prints.
Cloverfield director Matt Reeves is one of the few to have seen the teaser, which was always slated for release with his movie. Ah, the joy of being friends with J.J. Abrams. He produces your movie and then sticks the trailer for his own big movie on top as a big bow. Reeves's excitement is so great it easily came across when he recently spoke to the MTV Movies Blog. “It’s a teaser, you know, it’s a teaser trailer. But still, I was like ‘Wow!’ Just the scope of it, the scale of it, you just look at it and it’s so elegantly done.”
For those who have concerns about the direction Abrams is taking Trek, and the way the word “reboot” has been tossed about so frequently, apparently you’ll be able to see evidence of the direction the franchise is going from the trailer: “It’s one of those things where J.J. has a lot of ideas come out of [the fact that] he has a very simple, forceful way to express himself while capturing people’s imaginations. I think what [he and his producers] are doing with the trailer is fantastic; this is a great way to reboot the franchise, and get people excited about something new. That’s what excited me about seeing the trailer, was that I thought ‘Well, this does look completely different and new. But while having all the stuff that will make fans of Star Trek still feel fulfilled.”
Sorry, but I don’t see how this can be different and new and still make Trek fans feel fulfilled, especially when the word “reboot” has been thrown in again. Is this something new or is this something faithful to 30 years of Star Trek? I guess we’ll find out on January 18th, when the teaser trailer shows.

Kirk and Spock will meet, but by the end of the movie thier memories will be erased, so when they finally meet again in the timeline of the regular series, they wont have remembered each other. Sorry, but if they do that its lame.
