MOVIE NEWS
Watchmen Watch Allen We’re all suffering from a bit of Oscar Chat 4 (It’s over, finally I can stop linking!) hangover here at Cinema Blend, which means we’re fighting through residual exhaustion to get our usual stunning news stories out the door. But, prompted by the upcoming movie, I’ve just finished reading Alan Moore’s “Watchmen” for the first time. So of course now I’m all energetic to start digging for Watchmen casting. Post-Oscar Chat 4 fatigue can’t hold me back.
The first news comes by way of a rumor over at IGN Film Force. According to them, the recently resurging career of Joan Allen could be leading her to reunite with Bourne Supremacy director Paul Greengrass on his new flick, which is of course the aforementioned Watchmen. If she really does get a part, Allen would no doubt play Sally Jupiter, a retirement home aging ex-superhero from the 50’s. Allen would fit in nicely with the character, one of many in Moore’s comic series that tells the story of what I’ve been describing simplistically to people as a much darker, more realistic version of The Incredibles. Perhaps that description’s an oversimplification, but it gives you the general idea. No doubt I’ll be overusing it in the months of casting and production news to come. Stay tuned to enjoy that. Sally Jupiter isn’t a huge role, but plot-wise a pivotal one. We’ll let you know when or if the story is ever confirmed by someone. Not by us of course, we don’t have that kind of phone calling time. |
