Wolfman, Paul Greengrass' Green Zone Delayed![]()
Today Universal Pictures sent out their updated list of releases for the upcoming year, and while the rundown was mostly what we expected, there are a few surprises. First of all, Paul Greengrass's post-Bourne effort The Green Zone has been pushed from what was an expected fall slot to March 12 of next year. Ridley Scott's untitled Robin Hood movie has a release date, May 14 of next year. And perhaps most significantly, The Wolfman has been pushed back once again, this time to February 12 of next year.
That sounds like exceptionally bad news for the Benicio del Toro vehicle, which has already been pushed back several times and recently underwent reshoots. Horror nerds were disappointed to find nothing about the film at Comic Con, and now I guess we know why-- Universal won't be pumping up the publicity machine for a while now. The obvious thing to do is assume the February release date means it's a stinker, because why else would a movie starring two Oscar winners-- the other being Anthony Hopkins-- be pushed back to February? Same goes for The Green Zone, which had also been mysteriously low on buzz. But, as is always the case, who really knows? Green Zone probably got pushed to make room for the other Matt Damon vehicle of the fall, Invictus, while Wolfman's reshoots might mean more time in the edit bay. It's disappointing for horror fans who were looking forward to Wolfman as an intelligent Halloween release, but it's probably better to just hope for the best and assume they're busy making it the best movie it can be. |
