Olivia Newton-John Backs Out Of Vegas Gig Because Of Sister's Cancer
By Mack Rawden 2 years ago
Last week, Olivia Newton-John and the Flamingo Hotel worked out an agreement for the Grease star to appear in Las Vegas as a fill-in for Donny & Marie Osmond during dates the brother-sister duo are away. Unfortunately, it now seems that residency either won’t get off the ground or will get off the ground a little later than originally expected because her sister has been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Here’s what the actress/ wife told The Las Vegas Sun in a touching statement…
“I received the very sad news that my beautiful sister, Rona Newton-John, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. In light of this news, I have decided to postpone my forthcoming Las Vegas residency to spend time with her and our family. As a cancer ‘thriver’ myself, as many people are, I am very aware of the importance of love, support and family during this journey she is about to begin. I want to thank everyone in advance for respecting our privacy during this difficult time.”
Newton-John never achieved the incredible popularity of her co-star John Travolta, but that’s no shot at her ability to entertain. The Flamingo singled her out as a great fill-in, and her shows definitely would have sold very well to the general public. Hopefully, her sister Rona’s health will improve, allowing Olivia to start making the general public smile again.
Pop Blend’s sincerest thoughts go out to the entire Newton-John family during this traumatic time. Here’s to hoping cancer brings everyone closer and allows a new and fuller sense of bonding. We’ll keep you updated whenever more information becomes available.
