Syfy has pulled tonight’s episode of Haven in the wake of the tragic shootings at the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school. Tonight’s Season 3 episode was supposed to guest star Smallville’s Laura Vandervoort in a plotline that would have dealt with a tough subject, that would have hit home for many viewers on a day like today. Tonight’s episode was supposed to have dealt with high school violence.

According to TV Line, Syfy currently has no plans to air the episode on a later date. With the victims of the shooting just beginning their grieving process, and with news of the horrible tragedy likely to permeate culture for weeks and potentially months, it’s probably best to let the episode lie for a while, even if it changes Haven’s season trajectory a bit.

As inconvenient as the timing may be for Syfy’s popular show, the network seems to be understanding of the situation--which is completely stand-up--and guest star Vandervoort also says cutting the episode this week was the correct decision to make.
“I feel immense pain and sympathy for the families and children and couldn’t bear the thought of the images in tonight’s episode upsetting people.”

Tonight, NBC, ABC, and CBS will dedicate extra news time to covering the tragedy. You can check out the full list of coverage and times, here.
