John Goodman In Talks To Star In Roseanne Barr's NBC Pilot
Could Roseanne Barr and John Goodman be reuniting on television? There’s a reasonable possibility of that. While Barr’s comedy is still only in the pilot stage, and Goodman’s not technically officially signed on, word is, he’s close to a deal to star alongside Barr in the comedy.
Co-created by Roseanne Barr, John argent and Eric Gilliland, Downwardly Mobile will star Barr as a woman who owns a mobile home park. According to Deadline, she’s the “surrogate mother to all of the unique people who live there in a challenging economy.” The site reports that Goodman is in final negotiations to play the part of Barr’s character’s pal (the words “buddy relationship” are used).
Assuming this deal goes through, the casting will be fairly huge for fans of Roseanne. The two funny actors had an excellent dynamic on screen during the ’80’s/90’s sitcom and though it sounds like there won’t be romance involved this time around, there’s still plenty of potential for comedy between the two as friends.
John Goodman hasn’t shied away from TV in recent years. The actor’s recent small screen roles includes a part on FX’s Damages and HBO’s Treme. It’ll be very interesting to see whether this deal goes through and if his involvement helps get the green light from NBC for the pilot to go to series.
