Sharknado 2: The Second One Drops A Storm Of Sharks On Syfy Tomorrow Night

Syfy's forecast calls for a Sharknado, and come tomorrow night, the network plans to deliver. We took a peek at Sharknado 2: The Second One ahead of tomorrow night's grand debut, and if you're looking for full-on shark mayhem, this sequel delivers a hearty helping. and then some. Expect blood. Expect chaos. Expect New York City to be soaked in sharks.

Directed by Anthony C. Ferrante based on a screenplay from Thunder Levin, Sharknado 2 brings Fin (Ian Zierking) and April (Tara Reid) to the East Coast, where another terrifying storm full of sharks is about to hit Manhattan. Fans of the first film can rest assured that the sequel won't make you wait long for the action to begin, as the sequel picks up on a plane that's headed straight into the worst kind of storm. Fortunately, Fin is up for the challenge. From there, Sharknado 2 offers a whirling storm of hungry sharks and celebrity cameos, the latter of which range from Kelly Osbourne, Perez Hilton and Andy Dick to Matt Lauer, Al Roker and others.

The story could be broken down rather simply by stating that Fin and April arrive in New York, a sharknado occurs, mayhem ensues. With the help of Vivika Fox and Mark McGrath's characters, Fin is forced to rise up as a hero once again to rally the city against the carnivorous fish. There are other developments, but Sharknado 2 understands its purpose and manages to deliver steady doses of shark attacks, embracing its New York setting in the process.

Those looking for a deeply terrifying shark tale may want to stick with Jaws. But Sharknado 2 isn't aiming for that kind of subtlety, as the tone leans more toward thrills and action rather than tension and fear. It's aiming to drop a storm on Manhattan, fill it with hungry sharks and watch it tear through the streets (and tunnels). In that respect, those tuning in for over-the-top scares and ridiculous sharky shenanigans should be satisfied with what Sharknado 2: The Second One has to offer. Prepare to suspend your disbelief, grab some popcorn and brace yourselves for sharks.

Sharknado 2: The Second One airs on Wednesday, July 30 at 9:00 p.m. ET on Syfy. And if you're satisfied with The Second One, rest assured that the third one is coming to Syfy in 2015.
