Evil is about to awaken on Blu-ray. Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor on DVD and Blu-ray December 16th.
Rick O’Connell (Brendan Frasier) is back and getting himself into more action-filled adventures than ever. But O’Connell isn’t the only one returning, so is China’s ruthless Dragon Emperor with his army of warriors by his side. Emperor Han (Jet Li) was to spend eternity in suspended animation, but a young man named Alex (Luke Ford), foolishly releases the Emperor from his damnation. Who does Alex call for help? His father Rick, of course. Rick, his wife Evelyn (Maria Bello), her brother Jonathan (John Hannah) and Alex must stop the Emperor from succeeding in his quest for world domination. With a legion of Terra Cotta Warriors and an immense amount of supernatural powers under his control, Emperor Han will be quite difficult for this family of adventurers to vanquish.
A film with such a significant amount of suspense, pyrotechnics and beautiful scenery is almost required to provide an equally significant amount of bonus material. This disc does not disappoint. Both the DVD and Blu-ray version come with deleted scenes and a number of featurettes detailing the filmmaking process. Exclusive to the Blu-ray version is the U Control function, which allows the viewer to simply click whenever they’d like to delve deeper into the making of the film. The Blu-ray version also boasts several BD-Live Features, including scene sharing and access to exclusive content.
Maybe The Mummy franchise might have fizzled out a bit at the box office, but with such a loyal fan base I’m sure a decent sized army of enthusiasts will be in line to pick this one up come December 16th. Whereas this is another release to be left off my wish list, it will be on my father’s. Come the holidays, someone may find a gift and another someone will probably be watching that gift with him.
