Henry Poole Is Here, Are You?

Everyone imagines escaping their problems and hibernating at home, but no one actually does it; except Henry Poole. Thanks to Anchor Bay Entertainment, you can try to hide out with Henry Poole on January 20th.

Luke Wilson plays the title character of the comedic drama Henry Poole is Here. Henry thinks he can avoid the rest of the world by living in a tranquil suburban neighborhood. He discovers isolation isn’t easily achieved especially when a stain on his stucco wall is suspected to have extraordinary powers. His abode of solitude becomes a neighborhood shrine. Not only does Henry take a step toward faith, but love as well. He becomes increasingly interested in Dawn (Radha Mitchell), his next-door neighbor. Could this cynical recluse become a man of love and hope?

One of the most fascinating elements of this film is the soundtrack. Not only does it include music from brilliant artists like Ben Harper, Bob Dylan and Golden State, but the film’s theme song was chosen through an online songwriting competition. This effort, conducted by director Mark Pellington, Overture Films, Lakeshore Records and MySpace, resulted in over 3,000 submissions. Those entries were narrowed down to just five, which were posted on MySpace where people could vote for their top choice. Ron Irizarry from Orlando, Florida was the winner. The song’s music video is a part of the DVD special features menu. In addition, you’ll get “The Making of Henry Poole Is Here” featurette, commentary and an “All Roads Lead Home” music video. The Blu-ray version will give you access to some additional BD-Live elements.

If you need a little help keeping your chin up you should get a copy of this film. Some comedic jabs with a serious undertone is an excellent recipe for a meaningful movie that keeps a smile on your face. You can get Henry Poole is Here on DVD for $29.98 or Blu-ray for $39.98.
