Scoop: George Bush - The Parody Movie?

It’s a given that there’s nothing Hollywood loves better than itself, but you’ve got to wonder, with all the glut of parody movies being trundled out into theaters every year, why doesn’t anyone ever parody anything except other movies? It happens occasionally, but only outside the mainstream. John Cusack’s War, Inc. is a dark satire loosely based on the Iraq war, but it it’s not exactly a parody. Uwe Boll will attempt to clumsily parody real world politics in his upcoming movie Postal, but come on it’s Uwe Boll. For something made by someone who may actually have talent, consider keeping an eye out for a little indie comedy called Commander-and-Chief.

It stars the great character actor C. Thomas Howell as George Bush-like president, and tonight we got the inside track on what it’s about from one of his co-stars Chris Showerman. He says, “Commander-and-Chief is a comedy about a totally fictitious president who alienates the rest of the world and has a funny way of bungling the English language. His name is George W. Bristol and he’s played by actor extraordinaire C. Thomas Howell. The other main character is the janitor at the presidential library played by newcomer Ronnie Gene Blevins.”

George Bush’s presidency turned into a janitorial buddy movie? Works for me. As for Showerman, it sounds like he has only a small part. He tells us, “I’m barely in this movie. If you blink...oops, wait, you already missed me.” With or without Chis, Commander-and-Chief might be something worth keeping an eye on. It’s currently filming, and according to IMDB it’s slated for a direct to video release some time in February of 2009.
