Thanks to the movie 300, I had trouble playing God of War 3 without occasionally shouting out “This…is…SPARTA!” as I tore the game’s hordes of enemies limb from limb. Now, if I pre-order God of War: Ascension from GameStop, I can continue those practices in earnest with my handy-dandy King Leonidas multiplayer skin.
While 300 hit the silver screen many years back, I can’t really argue with this semi-bizarre cross promotion. While Leonidas may have been the Spartan King, God of War’s Kratos was their greatest warrior. He also eventually became their god, which pretty much wins out over kingship.
SCEA Product Marketing Manager Anthony Caiazzo announced today that the worlds of film and game would collide, as anyone who pre-orders God of War: Ascension will be able to take Leonidas into multiplayer.
“We are very excited to partner with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to offer you the chance to play as one of the biggest badasses in Greek history on the God of War: Ascension multiplayer battlefield,” Caiazzo said. “Donning King Leonidas’ red cape, iconic helmet and armor, you will stand apart as one of the ultimate warriors of Sparta.”
Caiazzo goes on to explain that Leonidas will also come equipped with his legendary spear, which has its own unique set of combat moves.
Finally, GameStop pre-orders will also net you a special double-sided Ascension poster. So that’s nice, too, right?
God of War: Ascension is set to release on March 15. If you want to claim your Leonidas online skin and poster, you’ll want to get in your GameStop pre-order before then.
