Koji Igarashi, the godfather of Castlevania, updated backers recently about the progress of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and the platforms they have plans on releasing the game on. They're actually canceling the game's release on the Wii U in favor of putting the game on the Nintendo Switch.
Over on the Kickstarter page the team working on the game announced that they would be canceling the game for the Wii U. Originally, it was scheduled to launch on Nintendo's Wii successor along with the Xbox One, PS4 and Steam. However, in the update they explain that the reason for the switch to the Switch wasn't just because it's the new hotness. In fact, they put some of the blame and onus on Nintendo for a lack of support for the Wii U.

It's an interesting revelation and something that sheds light on why a lot of other indie developers may also be dropping support for the Wii U in favor of the Switch. In fact, I think this is the first time a developer has made it clear that it was the lack of support from the hardware manufacture that led them to abandoning the platform.
It's no surprise that Nintendo has been courting a lot of third-party developers to launch games on the Nintendo Switch, especially for the system's launch, which was sparse in its offerings. Shortly before the Switch's launch, Nintendo also unveiled the Nindies... the independently made titles coming to the Switch.
Well, now another indie title will be joining the ranks, Inti Creates' Bloodstained.
The developers made it clear on the Kickstarter page that anyone who had backed the game in hopes of getting a Wii U version will instead receive a code for the Nintendo Switch version. However, if you don't have a Switch and don't want a Switch, you can switch to the Xbox One, PS4 or PC version of the game by filling out the backer survey and making the change right now. This change will only apply to those who backed Bloodstained for $28 or more.
Of course, the other big issue is that the game has been delayed quite a bit from its original intended release. Development has been slow due to the lack of resources on the team front to help speed up progress. Nearly six months ago Igarashi had explained that things will take a lot longer in order to get Bloodstained up and out for gamers due to the scope of the project and the small team working on it.
However, the good news is that they've already announced that they have a new update in the works and that it will go live soon, revealing new characters who will join the Bloodstained line-up.
