The spiritual successor for action RPG Demon's Souls was revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu. It's called Dark Souls and is in development for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
According to Famitsu (via NeoGAF), Dark will not continue the storyline of Demon's. It also uses a different setting. Dark will have one large, seamless world rather than several worlds connected via portals. From Software wants players to explore more.
Character customization will have more freedom as well. Dark will not have a class-based character creation system. Furthermore, there will be more spells and items to choose from.
In spite of these changes, Dark Souls will still be the same basic game as Demon's. Trial-and-error (ie dying a lot) remains a central part of the gameplay. The competitive and cooperative multiplayer aspects of its predecessor will remain in place as well.
Dark Souls is due by the end of 2011. Namco Bandai will publish the game in North America and Europe.
