Destiny's first expansion pack "The Dark Below" will be coming before the end of the year, Bungie says. "Dark" will introduce new activities for every type of Destiny player.

The new story quests center around the Hive. They're trying to summon a god named Crota that will help them wipe out humanity once and for all. Eris, a new NPC in the tower, will provide players with three missions.

New co-op content is also include. The Will of Crota, a new Strike, lets up to three players fight Crota's minion Omnigul. In the raid Crota's End, players will descend deep into the Hellmouth to stop this new threat from the Hive once and for all. All of this information may be unsurprising to you, thanks to details that leaked in September.

If you'd rather kill other players, you'll have three new maps to play:
  • Pantheon – set deep within the Black Garden in an ancient Vex temple that features Vex-designed landscapes and tight corridors
  • Skyshock – an old interplanetary defense array that offers both vehicle and infantry engagements
  • The Cauldron – an abandoned Hive ritual site that offers close-quarter combat
PS3 and PS4 owners will also some exclusive content in "The Dark Below." The exclusives include a cooperative strike called the Undying Mind and "more." Like other PlayStation-first content in Destiny, it won't be available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One until at least Fall 2015.

While playing these new activities, players can progress to a new Level cap of 32. You'll still need to find Light to increase your level past 20. The story missions will help increase your Light, Bungie says. Players can find new Legendary and Exotic gear throughout all the new events as well.

"The Dark Below" will launch on December 9th for $19.99 on PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Players can also buy the $34.99 Expansion Pass to get access to "Dark" and the game's second expansion, "The House of Wolves," as they're released.

Bungie has been hosting special events in Destiny since launch to give some variety to the game. These events introduce new rewards and activities for a limited time. They recently announced that two of these events, Queen's Wrath and Iron Banner, will be undergoing big changes before they return.
