A new developer diary was released for the upcoming first-person shooter MMO, Dust 514. Many people may have already been informed that it coincides with CCP's other MMO, EVE Online, but what you probably didn't know is that if you lose in Dust you can lose in EVE.

Resources in both games are directly tied to one another. This means that it takes the game's fictional corporation funds to build up bases, purchase gear, replenish armament or hire additional security defenses. The game's player-oriented economy is directly affected one way or another...and of course, for players who lose a mining or resource facility to an opposing corporation you can kiss all the profits from that installation goodbye.

I love the risk/reward factors attached to Dust 514. It's such a unique feature that -- if handled properly -- can truly create an unparalleled level of competition and dedication amongst the gaming community who participate in both Dust and EVE.

It's going to be interesting to see how the EVE Online community reacts, given that many of these guys will have their corporate assets, installations and profit ventures left to the FPS skills of PS3 console players. That will be a truly fascinating thing to witness a couple of years from now.

You can sign-up to participate in the Dust 514 beta right now or visit the Official Website to learn more about the game.
