The slew of Fallout 4 merchandise coming this fall now includes beer. Carlsberg UK is teaming up with Bethesda to release a special Fallout Beer in November.
Twelve-packs of Fallout Beer are available for pre-order for £29.99 apiece through Amazon. The product listing says the pilsner lager was "brewed using a malted barleys combined with selected hops." It adds that the brew has a floral aroma and "zesty hoppy" taste.
The beer will be released on November 5th, a few days before Fallout 4's official launch. Unfortunately, though, the beer is only shipping to UK customers. You might be able to get it elsewhere but it would require some maneuvering. I imagine some fans will have to resort to buying overpriced cases on eBay after it's released.
‘This is something of a world-first," said Carlsberg UK corporate affairs director Bruce Ray in a statement. "Adult participation in video gaming is a truly social activity, on a par with cinema and music. We’re proud to work with Bethesda to produce a beer Fallout fans can enjoy."
While there hasn't been a Fallout-themed beer before, we've seen plenty of other beers inspired by video games over the years. Bottle Logic Brewing produced Thunderbrew Anniversary Ale last year in honor of World of Warcraft's 10th year. Arcade Brewery makes Final Level Extra Special Bitter Ale and Mega Milk Oatmeal Stout. The catalog of beers from Tallgrass Brewing includes 8-Bit Pale Ale and 16-Bit Double Pale Ale.
It's surprising we don't see more alcohol tie-ins for video games. The average age of gamers is around 31 these days, after all. It would nice to see some acknowledgement that many gamers are growing up. Many of them have moved on from Mountain Dew and Doritos.
While most gamers outside of the UK won't be able to get their hands on this Fallout Beer, they'll have plenty of other Fallout 4 merchandise to choose from. Bethesda's producing watches, messenger bags, hoodies, action figures and more. They know that Fallout has a devoted fan base willing to spend big money to express their love for the Vault Boy. Bethesda can't even make Pip-Boys fast enough to keep up with the demand. The Fallout Beer itself is already at the top of Amazon's best-sellers list for groceries.
Fallout 4 will launch on November 10th worldwide on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
